Default Help with gearbox

Hello i’m posting on behalf of my father

We have a 1978, 5.6litres, the automatic transmission has lost pulling power in the forward gears, but works fine in reverse and the parking brake works

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Is the fluid level correct with the motor running in neutral? If so, I would just pull it out and have it rebuilt at a local transmission shop. You can pull the pan yourself and drain the fluid and look for metal , but my guess is the bands are worn out.
