Ok - long story made short is that I got a set of free long tube headers, which in turn made me buy some side pipes because why not.. I cleaned up the headers and coated them, contorted every way possible to install them, which included removing my starter, alternator, plugs and wires.. during reassembly everything was going fine until.....
Bubba's starter wiring fell apart.. the positive wire from battery to starter had a big #2 battery terminal (see picture) electrical taped on to make it work..
So I started messing around with it and I have no idea how the hell he got that piece to fit on that HUGE cable.. I even went and picked up a new pack of those terminals myself... there's no way to get all of those wires into that little puece..
So what should I be using to fix this positive battery cable, because I'm inclined to believe that anything #2 ain't gonna cut it.
You can buy those ends to handle larger cables, 1/0 is semi common so I'm sure 2 is easier
Maybe have to check a starter or alt rebuild place or something more industrial than NAPA.
A welding supply place should also carry them

If you have a terminal that is sized for the maximum size wire that you have, it may be very snug. It is very important that all the wire strands are straight and parallel. You cannot have any wires twisted or crossing over another. If they are straight but spiraled a bit, you can push and screw it on. If the wire is long enough, it could be cut back about a inch to get to virgin wire. If it isn't long enough, try to straighten the strands or get a larger connector (#1 or size 0).
Are you going to crimp or solder?

Thanks Mooser, I'll swing through tonight and grab a 1/0.

I'm planning on crimping in this case. My cable is just barely long enough so cutting it probably wouldnt work for me. The cables are all pretty straight, I just twisted them up a bit trying to screw the #2 on.

Just remember, 1/0 is two sizes up from a #2 so maybe you're after a #1 rather than a 1/0 (1/0 is a 0, 2/0 is a 00, 3/0 is 000 etc etc)

It's not the actual starter cable, it's the positive battery cable which is a major PITA to change out, and it is correct anyway. So I'm just trying to get the correct terminal for the starter is all.
Orig cable is a 0 size. Here are a couple of 2/0 ends. Easier to get old cable into. I would crimp and then solder them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-BURNDY-NE...oAAOSwWKtUstXx. While you are at it, check the neg cable where it volts to the frame right under battery. Big heavy wire. Thin cheap lug on the end. Corroded to hell. My wire pulled right out.

Good point
68-71/72 were #2 then went to the 0 (1/0) in 72 which I believe kept going.
(Weird how the high compression engines gave way to the lower ones and the cable size went up)

I actually ended up buying that one (coincidentally) last night! After going to Lowes, Northern Tool, Harbor Freight, none of them had anything even close to working. I went to Home Depot, and they had an entire selection, and for $5.50 i scored the one you linked, hooked it straight in and got fired up!

Hmm, interesting.. I guess that explains why my #2 didnt fit, huh!
