charging system 1981 vette
maybe some of you can help me out or give me directions. on my vette I know some were i have a small short where??? so I installed a battery disconnect. yesterday I charged up the battery read 1336 on my maltimeter. today started it up when it got to idle the maltimeter read 1214, turned on head lights and fan switch it still read 1216 to 1218, should it not go up to 1400, there is a new battery and 70 amp alternator HELP PLEASE

so i did some more checking on my vette, with my new malimeter, i,am not getting 14v back to the battery , i got the first alternator from orilleys, replaced it once a bout 3 weeks ago go back there today and after much checking the voltage reg in the alternator is bad so they promised me they would bench check it before i get the 3rd one

Welcome to the Forum. Just an FYI: you should have posted this in the Tech/Performance forum instead of General. Just my personal opinion. But, now I would suggest you watch some YouTube video's on how to perform a voltage check on your charging system using the Multimeter. Search for how to find a parasitic drain on your battery once you get a good working alternator. Involves a simple process of pulling fuses one by one to see in what system to focus your attention. Although I may be completely off the mark here and you need to look into a voltage drop problem... entirely different. Good luck.
