Just got through with the Rack and Pinion on my 68. Was wanting to upgrade the steering system and not have the bump steer problem etc.
What a difference that made. I should have done that 30 years ago instead of waisting my time and money on installing a new steering box and misc. tie rods and other front end stuff. It now drives like my 2016 Corvette. I had also gone with the Tremec 6 speed, which makes all the difference with the overdrive and getting that RPM gauge down,
Since the numbers don't match and the original owner got rid of the 427-425 Hp because gas was high in the early 70's. I now have gone back with the 427. What do the members think about modernized restoration. I am also changing out my rally wheels with aftermarket chrome wheels.
My car was originally a LS5 with a 4 speed... when I bought it in 1981 the original 454 was long gone.
Currently has a TKO 5-Speed and a BMW V12 dry sumped plus ITBs and 12 LS coils controlled by a Megasquirt MS3Pro.. Suspension is coil overs by Vansteel on all corners.
My '72 was an old show car, so made a purrfect hotrod project for me....Modifications Unlimited.....There is nothing stock, wheels to roof, stem to stern....NOTHING....
I bought a numbers matching black on red 69 roadster 2 years ago 350/350 4sd sidepipes buildsheet etc. The only thing I'm keeping original is the color combo. I think younger people could care less about numbers matching and your going to see more people going resto mod. I remember 30 years ago my neighbor had a cobra kit car and everyone gave him hell for it being a kit car, Recently my son in law bought a factory five cobra and everyone loves it. He's in orange county and often gets preferred parking over ferraris and lambos lol
