Default 82 fuel sender and pump help

Would appreciate your help!!! Installed new fuel sender and pump on my 82 and pump does not run. I want
to know if I wired it correctly before taking it out. The gray wire from the sender had a connector attached to it
so I snipped off connector and used a shrink tube connector to connect it to the gray wire attached to the
connector that came with the pump. The sender then had a black wire with a white stripe and a solid black wire that was
wired together and attached to a connector. I snipped off both connectors and placed them together into one end of
the shrink tube connector and then on the other end of the tube I placed the solid black wire that was attached to the
pump connector that came with pump

So, gray wire from sender to gray wire on pump connector. Black wire with stripe and solid black wire wired together in one end of
shrink tube and the other end I placed black wire from connector supplied with pump. This is a pump for 82 not 85.
Thank You!

My 82 sender has 3 wires at the top. Gray is for the pump, black is the ground and purple is for the gauge. There may also be a relay and/or a fuse for the pump itself. Can't help you any more than that because the 82 sender is in a 78 tank with an 86 pump inside the tank hooked up to an 86 TPI engine. Pretty sure you need 3 seperate wires. Good ground is very important.
