Our 1972 SB has had its front grilles (under chrome bumper) stripped and re-chromed at some stage but in the process they did not do a finite job of cleaning up the original imperfections, what I have is some really nice shiny chrome on the more visible outer edges but a dull silver fish when you investigate closer more towards the crosshatching of the grille. I understand that factory they came out with blackouts, where the inner area not shiny where the imperfections, are was covered in a black paint? I intend to redo this black out process but need a pic to understand where the edges of the paint should be. If anyone has pics of theirs that would be great, as a guide to show where I need to mask. Also I understand the egg crate section was left chrome on front, black behind? has anyone blacked this out completely, if so Could you please show me a pic as I'm uncertain, which way I'm going to go, blacked out or chrome
Hi Matt, Here are some pictures that may help. I cut thin strips of tape to go on the chrome edges. If you do some searching you will find the paint is not black, but a dark charcoal metallic.
Ok, grilles done but how about the two nudge bumpers underneath the main nose bumper? Do they get painted on the grille side of each same area as the grilles?
Thanks mate. I noticed mine before I took them off there was an inch gap between the grill and the bunperette. Are there adjustments so you can get it to line up like your photo above?
