Default Horn Button questions

I wanted to refurbish my faded and chipped horn button, but nobody seems to sell just the insert with the crossed flags, so I guess I'm going to replace the whole unit.

Questions: What's the difference between the buttons for tilt vs. Non-tilt columns? Which checkered flag is correct, black top left corner, or white? Did that depend on the year?

My vette is a 69 with non-tilt column. My current button has a black checker in the upper left, but I don't know if it's original or not.

Thanks!

The issue is that the horn button emblem and it's retainer are riveted to the back side of the outer pot metal ring. So once you remove the retainer it pretty much destroy's the outer painted section. I've seen people epoxy them back together over the years and yes at one time GM sold just the emblem. If you'd like email me at service@Willcoxcorvette.com and I'll see if I have NOS emblem left... .but in the long run you'd be better suited getting the button assembly which by the way comes apart so you can dye the outer bezel the correct color. Once you have this dyed, you then place the emblem in place, then the retainer and lay them on a very soft cloth... then you have to peen the rivets over to secure the assembly.

Black checker top left square is correct for your '69 horn button. Horn buttons on tilt & tell columns are much thicker and larger in diameter than the standard column.
You asked!
