Default U Joints

Have an 81 automatic. Last year I had the half shaft u joint replaced on one side and it took 9 different u joints to find one that my mechanic was able to tack weld after tying up his hoist for three days. Need any information on which u joint to use to replace the two on the driveshaft? Any manufacturers info such as a part number etc.... would be of great help. I have two of them delivered by Corvette America last year made by Coast to Coast. Their part number is 30970 or 1KE420FB. Thanks

I answered the question in tech forum. Go to Denny's Driveshafts and order Spicer SOLID (NON greaseable) u-joints. You will need to know or determine a bit of info on your half shafts.

Not sure what's going on with that mechanic.

Replaced all six u-joints on my 72 with no issue and no tack welding. Took one call and one trip to a quality local auto parts store.

Why tack weld ? ...

Because he bent yoke's ears and/or he let a needle fall into bottom of a cap ... or both ... because his work is garbage.
