Default Wiper Trough Contents

Inspired by some old posts to clean up the wiper trough while waiting for parts for other projects. Started after putting kids to bed and got disassembled and passenger side pretty clean in about 3 hours. Plan to do drivers side, then wiper arms, then paint and new hoses. Question though, there is a hose from the right of the wiper motor that goes to the right quarter panel, I don’t know what it is and haven’t been able to find it yet in my manuals. 1975, L48, Auto w/ AC, First two pictures show mystery hose, second two show before and after passenger side.

Mystery hose entering wiper trough

Mystery hose termination into passenger quarter, assume it has to do with hvac

Before clean up

Passenger side clean but not sealed and painted yet

The vacuum hose from the engine bay is to close the Fresh Air Intake for the HVAC System. On my 73 with AC, the door closes about 15 seconds after the motor starts. The door will open when vacuum on the system is diminished. The door will open and close depending on the HVAC settings. There is a rubber gasket to seal the door when closed. I found a good tutorial on the Forum that gives step by step restoring.
