New to the Forum. I thought I would start small. I'm looking to buy some touch up paint for a 1976 C3 Corvette. From the Body paint, and Trim Tag & VIN # I believe the paint colour is Mahagony Metallic code. Would anyone know a good website for touch up Paint ?
the chance of any touch up paint matching your car is slim to none. go to your local auto body paint supply store and have them use there camera on your car to match what you have
if the car has been painted before you have ZERO clue what formula was used to mix up the paint. one ounce of one tint will change the color to the point it wont look like the "Correct" shade. pair that up with the painters technique, lighting, temperature the car was painted at and your matching touch up paint will be no match at all
I have found by trial and error when paint is mixed by a good camera system or a well experienced painter, Reds, Greens and Orange are the easiest to match while Whites, Blues and Silvers are the trickiest. Even on a small spot, a dark vs light primer can make all the difference on thinly applied colors.
I had ‘73 ‘vette that had a repaint in a custom Red mix. It had a impossible amount of stone chips on the nose, but when I was finished repairing all the spots it was nearly perfect. Careful cleaning, brief but detailed wet sanding with a ultra fine paper, slightly over fill the spot, shave off the high spots and wet sand up to 3000 grit and buff.
I’m currently planing on a video to show all the details, but until that gets done I can explain more precisely to those interested.
