72 on its way back
where to begin we’ll in May of this year I pulled the trigger on a 72 that needed....needs a lot of work but had some good bones. 454 was gone, trans gone, but bird cage was good and frame was good so I grabbed it. Didn’t take much to convince the wife her and I both really like the chrome bumper Vetts.
So we got it home and I started pulling everything apart and haven’t stopped since. My original plan was to just clean up the frame what I could and repair or replace what was needed WELL that did not go as planned. Now I have bins and piles everywhere pieces at powder coating and have been on Elkers every Friday. The list has grown faster then I have imagined. Luckily my wife is very understanding
Well fast forward a little built a body lift and a body dolly because the plan to clean and paint the frame with the body on went out the window. I’m glad I did because the fuel lines and brake lines looked like a disaster to change while the body was on. So this weekend it happened body came off and frame came out and is now in the back of my pickup. Body is safely sitting on its new home for a couple months.
I have completely stripped it down front and rear suspension wire harness all AC parts. Power steering is out. My plan is to completely redo everything down to the hardware.
Future plans
: I’m pretty sure I have a motor lined up 454 out of another stingray so hopefully that works out
: Picked up a M-20 Muncie 4 speed going to rebuild that
: send my rear out to trans axle for rebuild
: The original color was Bridgehampton blue with I guess a dark saddle. I really like the exterior color but not so much on the interior going with black.
That’s about it for now if there is anything I’m missing or you guys see something I’m missing please let me know. I have been working on heavy equipment for almost 20 years but I have never did a frame off restoration on anything so I might need a little help.
Thanks Dan
