As mentioned in a previous post: I got my (hard to get loose) original intake manifold off.
Now... there are some things that I'm confused with...
1. I looked at all the passages of my original intake and it seems that the two passages at the rear aren't used... There isn't a true passage on the manifold. (see picture 1 & 2). My new Performer intake doesn't have the rear passages either... What is the reason that the two passages aren't used?
2. What is this 'shield' (see picture 3)? Do I have to install it on my new Performer intake? If so... is there a replacement part that fits my new intake?
Omitting the passages allows the Intake to run cooler. Don't worry about that.
And the shield keeps the heat from the lifter valley away from the Intakes plenum and carb for a cooler fuel charge. Don't worry about that either.
What you should worry about is that thing sticking out of the cross-over passage. H-m-m-m-m-m-m-
One head fits both sides. The rear passages are the front passages when the heads are put on the other side. Some aftermarket manifolds have pipe plugs-essentially heater hose taps on the rear water ports.
I will not be using the crossover anymore. I have a gasket that blocks the two passages.
In that case... do I need a lifter valley splash shield?
You do not need the valley splash pan but it does lower intake temps........although impossible to install without removing all of the pushrods as they go through it.
So I say just install your intake. Are you using the 1204 FelPro intake gasket?

Can I just take a dremel and cut out some parts (see red lines) so I don't have to remove the pushrods?
Will the 'heatshield' really make a difference in engine peformance? It is an L48.

But ... Do ensure the new gaskets have steel / stainless steel inserts for Xover ... aluminum will eventually burn through.
Done limited CT race motors where rules specify 2101 intake ... always used cheap intake gaskets & cut my own thin stainless for Xovers.
No, you do not need a splash shield on a street car ... more trouble than they're worth anyway ...
... no sig increase on engine dyno w/ 350 - 370hp motors ... and some shields have parts that can come loose into valley ... not good.
