Default 1973 Engine value question L48

I have the original engine from my 1973. Will be putting up for sale but not sure what its worth. It was rebuilt with new bearings, rings, etc. Didn't need bored had 80,000 original miles when rebuilt. Has edelbrock aluminum intake, rebuilt stock quadrajet carb, new flywheel, starter, alternator, air cleaner assembly, tach drive distributor. Has lunati cam and lifters. Has worked over 601 heads. I also have the original heads if wanted. Also have the originlal intake. Its complete just like if pulled and replaced with another motor. I built and installed a 454 and pulled this complete engine. It was ran less than 3,000 miles.
Out of storage and need to get rid of it.
What is it worth?
I have no idea............

OK, it is an 80,000 mile dished piston re-ringed short block. worth 500, but nobody will buy it. probly get 200. the 601 heads, if 1.94 or 2.02's might be worth 2 or 300. eddy intake. 50 bucks. KEEP the carb. KEEP the tach drive distributor. orig intake 5 cents a lb unless somebody here is doing a numbers-matching build. starter-alt-flywheel almost not worth the trouble of shipping for the 25 bucks each. whole assembled motor maybe 500 local sale.

The only real value is to the owner of the car that it was originally in and that it’s numbers match. Otherwise it is basically a boat anchor.

If if it was an L82 it may have more value.

Maybe offer to take it to Carlisle to anyone that buys it for what you are asking which you would do in the For Sale/Wanted To Buy Section. Might appeal to a 73 or 74 owner that wants to run a different engine while they rebuild their own. Also, when you post it up for sale, post some pictures of it so folks know what you have that you are selling.
Carlisle is just five days from now, worth getting this done sooner rather than later if you want it sold.
Good luck and best regards,
David Howard

In this age of LSx, old L48 has limited appeal to hotrodders ...
... if it happens to have a steel crank and / or 4-bolt mains, it may interest a local racer for use as a core.

It's only real value is from its unique relationship to your car ...
... If at all practical and in the interest of posterity, I suggest you should keep the motor with the car.

Fog it, tag it, bag it & store it.

Really ?... forty year old carbed sbc with 80,000 miles on what are often gas-washed cylinders ... got rings & inserts but didn't need oversize pistons?

and he has no storage space and a NOM 454 is better value, more fun, easier resale than a numbers matching L48.
