Hello! I am currently trying to put a 400 Sbc into my 74 Vette. The problem I am running to is the mounting brackets for the AC compressor are set up for the driver side but the car has everything on the passenger side for AC. Any suggestions?
The 400 doesn’t have the same holes tapped as the 350. Also it’s a compressor that came with the 400 Sbc. So the brackets fit great and the compressor will work it’s just on the side. Plus I don’t have three threaded holes on the passenger side of the heads. Only the driver side.
So would it be worth it to tap new holes on the passenger side of the heads?
you need to look at another sbc car and see how the compressor is mounted on the pass. side. my 71 the front bracket is on the 2 water pump bolts and the rear bracket is off the ex. manifold bolts. if you have a stock a6 compressor you should be able to make it work on the pass. side with the correct brackets.
I can’t tell you what came out of the car. It’s been sitting in a field for 30 years. Which is longer than I’ve been alive. I got ahold of a 400 Sbc for it from someone else’s project truck.
Ill take a look at some other sbc cars to see what they’ve got on them.
