Default A arm removal help

I am struggling to get remove the a arms on a 77 corvette and was wondering if I am doing anything wrong.
I have the spring compressed with a spring Comressor tool.
I have the upper and lower ball joint bolts unscrewed nearly all the way off.
I have a Jack under the lower a arm for extra safety.

I started hitting the leer a arm with a pickle fork in the pictured location. Is there any steps I have missed cause I'm not getting the separation I Am expecting.
Thanks for thr help
Jim

You have to do the top one first.

Also because you have left the nuts still on the ball joints ,you don't need to compress the spring , I always leave it so it helps pull the spindle piece down ,you must do the top one first .If its stubborn get 2BIG hammers, hold one against the bracket directly opposite where your hitting with the other .The hitting area is cast into the piece ! two raised areas opposite each other. You want the weight of the hammers hitting , I use a sledge hammer , but choke the handle for better control , so I am not really smashing it ridiculously hard.

when it pops , then put the spring compressor on ……..

Do yourself a favor, get a ball joint separator - here's one from Harbor Freight:

Ball Joint Separator

It will make you life a whole lot easier.

I agree You will see a lot of advice to use the BFH to remove suspension parts. There are specialized tools designed to remove the parts without smashing your fingers or parts if you miss with the hammer. Most use some type of heavy duty threaded bolt that exerts a couple tons of force safely to get the part loose. Some parts stores also rent the tools for only a deposit charge which you get back if you do not want to keep the tool. If you are taking the A arms off to replace the bushings, there is a tool also for that instead of burning it out or other methods.

Any idea which of the stores may have this tool. I would love to rent it. To be honest, i didnt know it existed, but it looks fantastic.
Does this tool work for any place that you traditionally use a pickle fork on?

Ahh, looks like maybe autozone may have one for rental. I will be getting onbe today if they do!
IS this the correct tool for the job?

I just got one from autozone. I will be trying it out tonight. Looks a lot easier than banging with a fork and hammer.

Just be careful and take your time. The ball joint pops out with a bang. I did 3 of my 4 ball joints with this in less than an hour.

I got the tool from autozone. Started in top one. Four turns and pop it came loose. Went to the bottom one, and I have it nearly all cranked in and it's not popped yet.
let me make sure I am still going this correctly.
I still have floor Jack holding up lower arm just a bit for safety.
I Have top ball joint popped but nut is still on it. Bottom nut is still slightly on.
Spring is still compressed.
Am I putting the separator in the correct location as shown in pictures?
Does the Bolt that is above need to be removed for any reason. It had a grease fitting but it snapped off.

Thanks
JimE

I would smack it with a hammer after a few turns. After the hammer a few more turns - go back and forth between turning the bolt on the separator and hammer.
