Default Assistance with Wheels needed

I am currently in the market for some wheels for my 76. I would like to purchase some custom wheels, however I am clueless on the various sizes and offsets which will fit without any body modifications. Ultimately I would like to put stock size tires in the front however go with a wider tire in the rear. I would appreciate any assistance in this area, I am new to the forum group. Also, any recommendations as to where to purchase the wheels is welcome. Thanks in advance for the assistance, Roy

Tire Rack has a pretty neat website where you can look at different wheels on your car. Kinda fun to play with.

First off, welcome to the forum.

Although I have not put custom wheels on my '70, I seriously considered it. However, I did do it on the S2000 I had several years ago.

I suggest checking out this thead and decide what wheel style you like...

Also check Google images....

Once you decide, and it is not always easy, call Discount Tire and ask if they carry that wheel, or can they get it. They should know the stock size wheel for your car and also a "+1" for the back.
There are also wheel visualizer that will give you and idea of what the wheels will look like on your car...

Tire rack is also a good vender. Do you need tires too? Sometimes you can get a "bundle" and save a few bucks, I had them mount the tires on the wheel, ship them to me and I just slapped 'em on once received.

Good Luck!

Default Wheels

While I love the look of rally wheels on my 68 I did go with some custom wheels for my 63. I looked at so many pics of every 63 on google and this forum and really liked the way Bose wheels looked. Quality is incredible, not cheap but not completely outrageous. I went with 17 in which seems to work well with stock suspension. I wanted to look some what like newer factory corvette wheels.

17 in Boze

15 in stock wheels

IMO, no larger than 18" diameter, ride/suspension be affected.....width is 8" stock, but you can fit 9.5 inch width without too much mods.....in the rear you need move the ebrake cable from being hit....top or behind rotor is fine....I went with '89 vette wheels and 50 series tires.....17x9.5 275/50/17 rear 255/50 up front.....

as we all know, wheels/tires are the single largest upgrade you can make to most any car to improve ride and handling......after that, the list is endless....

Keep in mind that no matter what wheel/tire, you really want to keep the wheel center line the same as stock, width going INside and OUTside being equally divided as per stock....that way you not messing with the overall suspension loading as per design....
