Hello All, I got a question about scratches in the fiberglass in the front clip of my 1975 corvette project car. Someone stripped part of the front clip and it looks like are some deep scratched in the fiberglass. I lightly hit a couple spots with a little sand paper and they came right out. This guy that supposedly has 40+ years of body experience stopped by and told me it's really deep and lots of work and money to fix it and I guess I'm just looking for a second or third opinion on how bad the scratches really are? Here a couple pics and I guess if it's really that bad I could always try to sand it out the best I can and if its really ruined find a differed clip. Any input would be greatly appreciated and just don't want to making anything worse than it is.
Fixing that is mostly going to depend on your level of expertise and the time frame you have to work with!
I also have 40+ years of paint and body and that is fixable! Even if you have to sand down to the fiberglass and re-gelcoat it !
I would go that route before thinking of removing the clip ! You can see some of my work on my build page 77 build , stage 1 !

I'm not an expert at paint & body, by no means, but I would:
- lightly sand it making sure not to go too deep, only sand out light scratches, i.e. you don't want to start seeing fiberglass fibers.
- then I would clean it really well, and then lay down a coat of VPA to cover the deep scratches.
- Then sand this cured VPA down so it is smooth to the touch and reapply if needed.
After that, you are ready to clean really well and primer it.
