Default L81 or L82?

Hello, New to the forum. I recently purchased a 1981 Corvette that I plan on restoring during the winter that the previous owner had stolen. My VIN is 1G1AY8762BS415*** from my understanding it would be a l82 for a 1981?

Nope, 1980 was the last year for the L82. All 1981’s had the L81 from the factory as will yours unless someone swapped out your engine somewhere along the way.

Correct, all '81s had the L-81, but got magnesium versions of the L-82 valve covers, and also the aluminum intake manifold

That's What I was wondering. The "B" in the vin is why I thought it might have been L82.

? Do you plan to restore your L81's computer-controlled carburetor-distributor combo ?

On a 1980 “6” means L82

Honestly, My Husband and I know very little about cars, but we are learning. (Thank God for the Internet!) This car caught my eye and the guy was only asking $3000. I figured this would be a good car to Start on. Once I figure out why the car is not engaging gear's then we will move on to other projects on it. Re dyed the interior cherry red and replaced a smashed t top already. This will be fun. lol
