This car was found and bought by my wifes father in July of 2008, he had purchased it to restore for her. He had 3 daughters and had restored 1965 GTO and 1968 GTO for the other two.
That fall he suddenly passed, he had not started the restoration of the car. My wife(not at the time) had just gone through a divorce and now lost her dad. The car intended for her was shipped up to NY to her. With no way to fix or restore and having to place a roof over her 2 boys head at the time she had no other choice to sell it, a decision that she had always regretted.
So fast forward few years I meet this amazing woman with 2 boys and we eventually get married. I had always been a car guy always tinkering or building something get a call from the wife one day "hey my sister wants to sell the 65" my response OK will take it. Few more years go by other sister sells us the 68 GTO. So now we had both her dads cars but not hers
The whole time i would try to get info from her on the Corvette and she would not talk about it and would be upset over it. So this started my quest with no info looking for a green 71 corvette with a NC license plate. I would look on and off always just trying to get more from her but nothing. the past 3 years i really started looking hard but with only a plate number it was tough I wanted to get it by out 10 year anniversary. One day i googled Brands Hatch Green Corvette and in the tone of photos that came up was this one but not knowing this I kept looking.
The broker/ Corvette dealer Turnner's who she had sold it to, had sold the business to Vanbortel. one of the guys there had remembered the car and pointed me in the direction of this forum I found the photos and the plate on the car from when Dave got it. This is the point I knew the car was "out there" someplace . Then finding the photos of the restoration and that when i tossed out I'm looking for this car.
Dave answered and knew of the new owner. latter that week Dave put me in touch with the new owners, who had just decided to sell the car and moved it to a Broker. We were able to work out a price and Yesterday with truck and trailer we were able to pick it up and bring it back home.
needles to say this has been an emotional dream here on the Homefront with an amazing ending. The quality of this restoration is amazing and something my wifes father nor myself would not have had the time to do and to the level it is. I will say I'm sure lots of you have clicked through the restoration photos like I have done too, I will say they do it no justice till you see this car in person.
Thank you for all the messages I received her, For all this my Wife , Family and Myself are incredibly grateful

And I still have a few copies of it too.
Hey, maybe I should have an autograph session at the dealership.
Or maybe not...

Then I saw your response and the Michigan State license plate. Now it makes sense. Sparty...Spartans.
I'm curious why you got rid lf it after so much effort?
BTW...I'm a Sundevil. Sorry about the last two years. No telling when you guys will get a chance to even the score!

WOW!
I never got to see the famous "Sparty".
Thanks for sharing David.
Wonder why the owner traded it into a car dealership?
Must be a bitter sweet moment for you.
But just a testament to your skills and attention to detail.

You can learn more HERE.
I'll be helping the new owner obtain some of the original components and documentation.
Thought you might like to know.

I followed along with your progress initially when you were restoring this car, but I was inclined to go back and revisit the restoration after you posted this link. Amazing!
I’m always intrigued by these start to finish restoration threads (hey, it’s what I do), even more so when they are performed as expertly as this one.
Keep up the great work!
