Default Trouble installing the window crank...

76
I am having trouble getting the window crank to 'pop' on the splined shaft. It is a new crank with fresh grooves. Are there any tricks? I tried installing the clip to the crank and then hitting it with a rubber mallet but it never seems to fully pop into place.
Any other methods?
MD

Slide the clip into the handle first then push it on the crank.

I've also found this problem with several aftermarket crank handles. The hole is just not quite deep enough for the clip to bite the shaft groove.
I don't know how in the world the offshore manufacturers can F-up such a simple part, but they do.
I finally gave up after 4 different aftermarket handles, went on eBay and bought two nice used handles.
They STAY ON.
I suppose if you were really stuck, you could grind just a bit off end of the regulator shaft so the aftermarket piece will go deep enough to clip in place but I was a little hestant to do that. I'd rather modify the cheap part than modify my car.

Also.....knock-off handles may have the notches in the wrong location from the end of the stub...or the centr-hole in the handle may not be deep enough to let the handle "pop" into position so that the snap ring locks in place

maybe take a drill to the hole inside the new handle? i doubt it is steel, so should drill pretty easy. and if you drill right through it, no real loss...

I bought two from Ecklers and they would not fit. I bought two from Paragon Reproductions and they did fit, but cost twice as much.
