Default 1971 ls5 gaskets

I'm in the process of replacing leaking/brittle gaskets and seals. When taking the factory cast iron exhaust manifolds off the engine there are no gaskets present. Is this kosher? The original 454/365 engine was replaced under warranty (12 mos / 12k miles) by the dealership and I wonder if they just left them out?? If I remember correctly the normal replacement process for a crack in the engines water jacket was to replace only the short block, removing and reusing as many of the original components as possible. The engine pad is stamped with the C.E. and numbers I believe to be the date of replacement?

yes you need a gasket, I had one leaking on my 71 BB and changed it, just go to any automotive store and they should have a set. there aluminum I believe and were only a few bucks.

They did not originally have gaskets between the manifold and the head. If they do not fit flush, use a straight edge and find out why... then file to correct the deficiencies.
