I have a chance to buy my 70 LS5 Coupe back and wondered if you guys would give me a little value help please as I haven’t been actively in the market for a number of years. Cortez Silver on black leather, LS5, 4 speed, 29,000 original mile car that an **** previous owner wanted to be perfect so he had a concourse frame off resto done. Truly a number 1 car with full documentation. Any help appreciated.
My original ad...The car was purchased new from Phil Joseph Chevrolet in Winsted, Conn. The original owner ordered the car to his personal specs: Cortez Silver, Black Leather, LS5 454-390hp, M21, Power Windows, AM/FM Pushbutton Stereo Radio, 3.70 posi, White Stripe tires. He babied the car for the next 13 years and only put 21,000 miles on it. In 1983, he decided to sell it and began "interviewing" potential buyers. The second owner was interviewed 4 times before finally being given the OK to buy the car. He owned the car until last summer when I purchased it from him. He was an extremely fussy owner also and put just 8,000 miles on the car in 25 years. In fact, he was so picky that in 1993 he decided that he wanted the car to be "perfect" so he had the car frame-off restored! This was really a shame as the photo history shows the car was an absolutely beautiful unrestored car before he had this work done. You can even clearly read the frame stencil on the pre-restoration pics. Regardless, the car came out gorgeous and looks as good today as it did the day it was restored. Obviously, these two previous owners also took good care of the paperwork from the car. I have the original window sticker, POP, owner's manual, all resto receipts, titles, registrations, and a complete photo history of the restoration. And of course the car is completely numbers matching with the "born-with" drivetrain. This is not your run of the mill Corvette that lead a rough life and was brought back to life. This car has always been gorgeous and lovingly maintained. It has always been absolutely rust free. If you see the car in person you will know exactly what I mean! This is a Duntov quality Corvette and one of the best '70's I have ever seen...

I been in the 70-72 454 market for over a year but its hard for me to price that kind of originality and quality. 60K? Corvette DNA has it at 57K. It seems the hot items on 454's were convertibles, AC, PS,4 speed, tilt. Some chrome bumper 454's went into 50's and 60's and as high as 80 at the national auctions, but I saw some really nice ones go for low 40's. I think color factors into it but not sure how silver fares. ( i don't like it because it reminds me of when I was a kid with no money and drove primer cars) I bought a 71 454 coupe, no air, no tilt, but did have 4 speed and PS.
I agree if it is as nice as you describe than 60-70k range or more. This Silver 70 LS5 which is coming up for Auction was a No Sale with a high bid of 80k two years ago. It is all original with 8k original miles
Thanks guys. He had it appraised recently at $80K, which I think is very high for a restored car. I sold it in 2006 or 7 for $42,000 and wasn't sure if the market had gone up, down or sideways since then. He hasn't put a price on it, but I am guessing he is looking for something closer to his recent appraisal.
I sold this year a very nice 71 LS 5 coupe steel city grey blk leather PS PB 4-speed original drive train 31k miles car car drove like new
sold for 44k went to Denmark, your car would have more value, I think the ceiling on these LS-5 coupes is 50
Thanks for your input guys. Looks like I might be able to buy it for slightly more than I sold it for 10 years ago. Just 1,000 more miles on it. Fingers crossed...

you do have some leverage since he knows you know what he paid. and he didn't do much except protect it over the time he had it. and the market hasn't gone up appreciably.
It looks like we will have to wait until Spring to see if we can make a deal. In the meantime, I will continue looking for a mint 72 LT-1 as that is really what I was looking for when he contacted me 😀
