Default Passing gear cable adjustment

hello,

Anyone knows how can i adjust the passing gear cable. Many guys say remove the retainer clip and then go to full throttle position and snap the clip back. But i think how can the valve pull on with this method because you only adjust the cable length without the valve pull or i am wrong the that?

i have a c3 79* and a th350

From the assembly manual.

DETENT CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT

1. Make sure "Snap Lock" is disengaged before
attempting to make adjustment (Cable should
be free to slide thru "Snap Lock").

2. With cable installed in the bracket attached to trans
lever; rotate carb lever to wide open
throttle, making sure lever is against wide
open throttle stop.

3. With carb lever in wide open throttle push
"Snap Lock" downward until top is flush with ,
the rest of cable.
