I want to replace the rear storage compartment on my 68 since mine is busted up and the storage box has a hole in it. Can I just buy the complete assembly plus a storage box from the vendors? Do I need anything additional to complete it?
Your best bet is to grab a paper tablet, sit down at your lap-top and visit 3-5 Vette vendor sites. Right down not only prices & shpg but be aware that some parts came in color code to match your interior and some come in primer. So you will have to paint it to your desire. (Not my thing)

Here is a complete rear compartment package to give you an idea of what you will need
thats a lot of parts. From what I saw online it seems like the complete assemblies have everything aside from the lights, the compartment boxes and the door pull/lock hardware
You and your wallet can decide how far you want to go with this project. You can re-use the hinges, the rubber stops, locks / latches and sometimes you can re-cover / carpet the doors to save money. The frames can be purchased separately. Your damaged tubs are another story. It will not buff-out.
You can get the complete lid assembly with the correct color from most of the vendors. I just replaced mine last spring. The tubs, other than the cardboard inserts may be a different story. Those might take a little fiberglass work. Not difficult, just it can be a bit messy and some time.
Am I seeing this right? Is your fiberboard tray mounted UNDERNEATH the 3-panel door frame assembly? Especially in the first photo, it looks like the tray was dropped into the hole and then the frame was attached over top of the tray. If true, I think it's assembled wrong. At least on my '72, the tray drops into the frame, thereby making it removable. Make sense as I have it typed?
Good eye! I thought something didn't look right but remained silent.
On a '77 the liner is not only removable, but there's more storage space underneath. (passenger side)
