Default Hugger Headers

Are the Hooker Competition Hugger Headers worth putting on over the stock exhaust manifolds for an early C3? Just got a set pretty cheap, so I'm wondering what I would expect if I put them on.

If they are replacing stock manifolds with a 2" outlet, I don't see how they wouldn't be better. Maybe about the same as 2 1/2" rams horns, may be a bit better. With a 2 1/2" collector, where is the next bottleneck in your exhaust?

Like, the pipe itself or the manifold? and yeah, the stock 2'' outlet manifolds.

Yes, the pipe and the rest of the system. You'll have to at least replace where it mates to the downturns, but an exhaust shop can do that easy. I don't know if your year has a heat riser valve, but get rid of that, too.

A PO of my 79 put in a true-dual exhaust (including dual cats) but chose to use 2" tubing everywhere. I didn't upgrade to 2 1/2" outlet rams horns because I would have to at least replace the downturn tubes, and probably the cats, to get any noticeable improvement. At which point, I'll just wait and do the whole thing at once.

Heat riser valve is gone already, I'm probably gonna be welding and doing this myself.

Should be fun! I can't think of a reason not to do it if the price is right. Let us know how it goes!
