A broken spring. Started up and moved my vette over to prep for paint. Went to open the door to get out, wouldn't bunch. I'm sure my neighbors enjoyed watching me climb over the console and go out the passenger door. What happened here? I have the panel off already and I'd like to get this squared away before paint. Should I get a rebuild kit on order? Thanks in advance. You guys are always a huge help.
I see a few issues with your latch. Circle number one, broken spring. Circle number two, should be attached to the outer key lock mechanism. Circle three, This should attach to the rod that hangs down from the outer door handle. I would just order a replacement latch assembly and be done with it. Trying to repair these old, worn latches can be a real exercise in futility.

2 and 3 are purposefully disconnected so I could remove the outer hardware for paint. For number 1, what is the correct installation of that spring? Not sure what its called so I dont know what to look for.
My mistake brother. I didn't realize you'd already disassembled some of it. I don't know if any of the vendors sell that spring separately. I checked my catalogs but only found complete mechanisms. You could ask those who sell used parts maybe. Or post here in the C3 Parts section.

Hey all, primed the front end last night and figured I should probably get these door latches squared away before I prime the doors. Took the drivers side out and upon closer inspection, it is that smaller circular spring at the top that broke in half. I found the spring on zip corvette, $9 (not including shipping), I'm going to see if I can find a part number to find a standard and more readily available spring. Thank you everyone for the input.
My locking mechanism looked almost as bad as yours. I pulled them out and let them soak in gasoline overnight, then cleaned them and sprayed them with silicon lube, works great now.
