Ugly console carpet panel ideas
The carpet side panels for my console are butt-ugly. The edge of the camel-colored carpet is exposed on the driver's side and it looks like '80's ****. Yeah I could re-mount the screws and tuck it back in but I'm thinking of a pleated vinyl cover. Black.
What have others done for this problem area?

Maybe something like this, 2" x 3" diamond.

I think a new stock piece, tucked in neatly and not showing the unfinished edge would be much nicer.

I didn't like the carpeted panels either. When I re did my interior on my 1980, I looked around and found those panels are also available in vinyl covers or leather covered in the proper colors. I order the vinyl covered pieces and the quality and color match was excellent. I ordered them from a vendor on EBAY. Gil

If the fiberboard under the carpet is in decent shape. Go to your local fabric shop and buy some vinyl to match. Black was easy though.

FYI I purchased a yard x 52" wide of the fabric in post 2, Amazon $23 to my door. That's cheap enough to do one and see how it looks.

I pretty much did the same as mentioned above. Went to Joann Fabric and bought a few yards of material that matched my dash pad. I'll be re-doing the entire door panels in that as well over the winter. All in all came out to like 40 bucks plus glue.

Looks like this owner trimmed the bottom of his in stainless or polished aluminum for a clean look.

That fiber board is dirt cheap at Home Depot. I happened to have a piece laying around for a project. I traced my old flimsy side panels and cut out new ones that weren't cracked and bowed.

That looks like a Cowles product.
https://cowlesproducts.com/ They make plastic extrusions with a coated chrome look, high quality and very durable. I've used them in the past on several projects.

That's also the later c3 center dash/console with an earlier version dash. Note the curve in the dash close to the radio.

Autometer gauges and an android screen. Cut out metal plates to cover stock bezels. Tried to keep it clean and stock looking.

Here's my final product. I used the original panels and screws.
Also cleaned the carpet by scrubbing with Simple Green and water, followed by wet vacuuming. Looks pretty good for 39 years old.
