Hi All,
Removed the left side upper fender molding to repair paint on my '69.
There was one screw on the inner side, and some kind of clip remaining at the base of the windshield after I removed the molding.
I see the clip and the screw in vendors' kits to replace the moldings.
But I don't clearly see how the clip works to hold the molding down. There aren't any good detailed pictures I've found to show the installation.
There is a good amount of adhesive/sealer remaining under the molding, so I'm guess the prior owner resorted to spooging something in there to help hold down the molding.
The clip is still embedded in the adhesive, but I don't want to yank it out if it is meant to be pre-installed into the windshield sealer.
Any pictures and/or words to describe this little bugger of a piece, would be appreciated.
There should be no windshield sealer. The clip slides under the fender lip from the inside so the upper part is above the fender and the lower edge is below. You then slide the upper molding under the top edge from the outside and then push it inwards then install your front screw. The pic below is of a W/S install and you can see the mounted clips and how the molding can slide under the edge. This one has 2 clips on each side but I think 1 was normal.
Another thought for you. I have installed a couple of these and used the end screw but also used just a dot of 3M emblem glue to hold the front where the clip would be. Modern emblem glue is great.
