3 main things effect how the car brakes.
1. brake pads
2. rotor surface
3. Master Cylinder / brake fluid / caliper flex lines.
Starting with the MC. If there is any air in the MC calipers or brake lines "they will always be bad".
If the brake pads don't produce friction again "they will always be bad", depends on the material used on the brake pads.
If the rotors are polished or contaminated (embedded with different brake pad materials) "they will always be bad"
Air usually shows up as a soft pedal and other problems cannot be measured since the car will not stop properly.
Poor brake pads show as poor stopping distance or cannot lock up the wheels
Rotor problems as vibration poor stopping distance.
I have wildwood MC / Calipers / with stoptech rotors / raybestos ST47 brake pads. This is not a upgrade to the factory brakes, just not AC Delco / GM parts.
With the factory GM parts and ST47 brake pads vs the wildwood parts and the same brake pads, they perform the same, well for track day use the wilwood parts last much longer.
I am guessing your calipers leak and have contaminated the rotors / brake pads and you have air in the brake lines.
Find out what has failed before just replacing everything.
I kept the best of the calipers from my 79 (already SS sleeved), and rebuilt them for my 80 with CSSB O-ring kits, and used stainless braided hoses vs. rubber hoses.
For both cars, the Motive Pressure Bleeder is a pro tip, and made the job much easier.
As with Post #3, figure out what you need before buying parts. New hoses and proper bleeding are a must no matter what.

It's also always pulled to the right a little when hitting the brakes hard. Not enough to bug me.
Yup... Safety is at the top of my list... Spending a little more for parts is no biggie.
t just seems many of the vendors have issue....
Ecklers - Ordered and 2 days later was told it was not in stock. Would be late MAY - Canceled order
Corvette Central - Has what I want in stock... But really BAD Google reviews for this joint - skipped
Zip as the items I need list (waiting for validation items are in stock.) They will also buy back my original Delco Calipers. -- Waiting for quote and shipping cost.
Not interested in the junk most the local parts store sell.....
As always..... The Corvette forum is fantastic... Appreciate all the details and help.. If anyone can suggest another vendor... please do.

I had a '79 too. Mine pulled to one side when braking, it turned out the power steering balance valve needed adjustment. As far as vendors, Rock auto has always worked for my other cars and trucks
i would consider what others said and fix whats needed..redo calipers or check for operation..replace line rubber and steel neat rotors if needed..bleed all....
original brakes to me are excellent.

And for what its worth, I have purchased rebuilt calipers from the local NAPA that worked fine. Delco Remy. They do want the cores back.
