69 coupe weatherstrip problems
I'm having issues with the door weatherstrip on my 69 coupe. I bought repop weatherstrip years ago and I don't really remember where it came from but regardless it is not configured like my original as it doesn't fit properly and will not seal like the original.
What am I missing here?
As I see it the pair and single screw attach holes are too far apart, see how the one screw that will be hidden under the door panel is secured but the two under the ledge are about 1/2" off.
There is also a portion missing aft of the outer door glass seal that is filled by the original weatherstrip but left wide open with the repop weatherstrip.
I guess my question is, is this typical of repop weatherstrip or is this just a bad repop? I've also been told that my original weatherstrip is for the convertible... I don't know enough to know if they are interchangeable but if they are then I guess it's possible that there was a mix-up on the line and my car got the wrong outer door seal and the "fix" was to install the wrong weatherstrip. I'm not sure what the answer is but any advice in dealing with this is appreciated.
Thanks.
This is the door weatherstrip after we installed it on a 1970 convertible.
That's an interesting comment that the top pic is convertible weatherstrip. This is what came on my coupe when I bought it back in 87 or 88. The ends were old rusty and crusty then and I didn't have the money to replace it so I just cleaned it the best I could and used black silicon to repair and fill some of the damaged spots. What I'm getting at is that I'm 99% certain this weatherstrip was installed on the line. If so then the mid design might have been closer to the convertible style than the later coupe style....
I guess what I'm getting at is should I try convertible weatherstrip on my coupe??? I'm not sure if it would fit any better but at least it should fill the gap aft of the outer door seal like the original did.
It might also help if someone could post pics in this area of their installed repop weatherstrip so that I would know what to expect and shoot for.
Thanks again

There was an early and late t-top weatherstrip but they both installed the same with very little differences. (one was two pieces, one was a one piece)
It was common for people to order convertible weatherstrips for their car by mistake when ordering from GM so that may explain it I don't know.
What I do know is the one in your lower picture is the correct coupe door weatherstrip

Now I have to decide if should make it the way it "should have been" or the way it was.... Has anyone else ever seen this configuration on original cars?

My guess is someone changed the door weatherstrip and probably cut off the wipe or just replaced it with a convertible one. The brass wedges were used on all cars 1969. I'd just put the correct weatherstrip on the car and order the correct wipe. The outer molding was the same coupe and convertible.

I agree that it's possible someone may have changed the weatherstrip and cut off the wipe to make them fit but I see no evidence to support that. The car was far from new when I bought it as it was 17 years old but despite that, it was a very original and very tired car. At the time all wear and tear was consistence with no signs of any pieces being replaced and yes all weatherstrip was aged about the same. In fact I would say the door weatherstrip had deteriorated the most as it took the most work to try and make it presentable. The old door wipes were also well aged with no signs of them ever being replaced. If someone did replace these seals then it was done shortly after the car was new and I see no point why anyone would do that. Don't know what else to say about it but I'd be curious to know if there are other cars out there like this.
