The original 1975 A6 AC compressor is starting to make noise (not the belt) and I think possibly the bearings are going bad.
And as a side not that thing is VERY heavy!
The AC does not work anyhow and was open to the air when I had the engine rebuilt.
And right now the cost to get it up and running on R134a is not in my budget.
So if I remove the compressor would there be a problem of not having a right side load on the water pump?
Only the alternator on the left would be belted to the pump. The smog pump was removed decades ago.
I say it would be OK. Some say yes and some say no.
That setup will be fine. I ran my 68 like that for years. You could also run a small belt from the water pump to the crank shaft provided you have a double pulley on both. Jerry
I have had my 76 for almost 23 years and a couple years after I got it, the A6 compressor started squealing. I cut the belt off and it has been that way ever since. T-tops come off when I am out riding - don't need AC.
