I don't understand why any shop would want a single car around for a year. It doesn't take that long to put out a great paint job more less a crappy one. I think the problem is that people tell the shop that their not in a hurry and that's what they get, a body shop storage unit. I find that a lot of chassis builders for race cars and engine builders are of the same class. They take in your project feed you a line of crap and your project sets . They loose your parts or they use them on someone else's project to get it out faster for more cash flow.
Went through that too, 2 paint shops, an avg job never finished, most parts for my car missing. engine trans you name it. These were high end shops, too.
Either sell it as is now or finish it;get every single thing on your work order in writing, even changes. Do not ever let them get money ahead/work behind...when the "it was more work than I thought".sob stories etc cut your losses and pull your car out of there ASAP no matter how much $ you lose. I learned the hard way,. As I said...interior....a new engine wound up in another customers car, my 65 327, the 427 I had on a stand planed for my Camino, 6 spd trim tag and my ROOF all of it. Gone.
He wound up dead, right where he belongs.
Keep moving forward.
I was recently ripped off when someone who was highly recommended, Mike Dyer trackdogg2, stole $3,900.00 from me when he never delivered a new rear differential I paid him for.
That is what the court system is for, and it will cost him in attorneys fees plus court costs by the time I am finished dealing with him.
Liars and thieves get what they deserve in the end.
Document everything and take him to court.
I have put it behind me and I am moving forward with my project.

WHY THE FIRST SHOP TOOK 1 YEAR BECAUSE THERE BODY MAN WAS ON WORK RELEASE FROM THE BIG HOUSE. BUT I WENT TO THE BODY SHOP TODAY AND I GOT GOOD NEWS,I THINK ! HE SAID DROP OFF THE CAR AND IT WILL BE FIXED. I WILL GET BACK TO YOU GUYS AND TELL YOU HOW I MAKE OUT. THANK FOR YOUR FEEDBACK
Had my 1970 corvette for 17 years right after I was disabled from the job I loved at age 42. So i purchased a 2 car garage on cement, nice man cave. I did a frame off restore on every nut and bolt powder coated and everything new.
Worked on it all 17 years then I wanted to change the color to Bridge Hampton Blue. Took the shop 1 year and came out like crape so I striped it then got a lot of good talk about this body shop so here we go again. The owner sad I want all your parts so I can fit them. ok I went to pick up the car and it look good so I took it home then here we go again. Nothing fit and I’m not kidding. the paint starting to bubble so I go back to tell him, ok i will fix it then the rear window seal fell off the door lock was too big the trim on top of fender doesn’t fit put the antenna in spider cracks in the paint next day so all I have to do is rear bumper’s.
What a mess, they don’t even come close so I went and put mud down and fixed the problem but will he repaint the car for free or bled the color in or will not touch it at all. Plus my lt1 hood where you put those trim in don’t fit so I find out my brother is taking his car to the same place tomorrow so I will get there first to see what the owner says about my Vette and if I don't like what I hear I will talk my brother out of giving him the car. That’s the only leg I have to stand on. I’ve had enough and can’t win.
$4500 plus $ 10500 2 paint jobs all out of money all I wanted was a nice paint job.

“Turn off your caps lock” doesn’t mean “leave on your caps lock but add bold to it.”
Who really cares about caps except a few . Sorry for your body shop problems. I heard of a guy who took his Mopar to a recommended shop for restoration. Similar to OLD CAR BUM , he looked around at the shop and seem a number of cars in various stages of assembly / disassembly . He dropped off his car. A short while later he got a call from the police About a car body in a parking lot that was traced to him. When he went to the lot he found his car completely stripped and the Body shop gone. What he found out was the cars that he thought were being restored were actually being stripped and the parts sold. A friend of mine dropped off his sons car for some work at a guys business . He also got the call that he'd better go check on his car. Found the car stripped of the rear end, wheels / tires, carb , seats and battery . I wouldn't trust anyone myself. Leaving your car somewhere for a year? Your lucky you got anything back.

Yep, they are quick to talk you into entrusting them with your car and then even quicker with the endless excuses as to why they can't get it done. Happened to me when the trans was swapped out on my '70. it took them three months, every time I showed up it was sitting an a hoist gathering dust while they worked on other vehicles.I swear I wore a track round to that shop, once I got the car back I've never gone back there and tell everyone I know about the poor service.
My hats off to all you guys who lay a car up for years until you get it all exactly right. It takes a lot of time and patience, not to mention the money spent. I'd rather drive a rolling wreck and get it in shape without a lot of downtime, and end up with a driver quality ride, doing as much as possible of the work myself. It saves a lot of aggravation, not to mention cash, and you have a car you can enjoy from the get go, and not have a heart attack with every little scratch.
HEY I82vett that story put mine to shame, now I feel better and71 GREEN 454 I CAN MAKE IT YOUR LAST VETTEBUYER6369 I LIKE CAPS THESE GUYS SHOULD GET A LIFE
