As my Corvette approaches it's 50th Birthday I have some questions.
1.Is the trim tag date generally accepted as the "birth" of the car?
2.Did the St. Louis plant work Saturdays in 1970?
3.The C3 registry has my car's Birthday listed as March 8. That would have been a Sunday in 1970.
I know the trim tag was put on when the car passed the VIN station and usually needed a day or day and a half to complete. I'm guessing my car was completed Saturday the 7th or Monday the 9th.
Cool fact: March1970 and March2020 are exactly the same on the calendar, both started on a Sunday.
You can get your official birthday from this website https://www.c3registry.com/index.php?job=Home
Look on the left side where it says birthdays and you can see exactly when the official birthday is
…1.Is the trim tag date generally accepted as the "birth" of the car?...
Your choice. The trim tag date is the day your car reached the station on the assembly line when the tag was attached. It was probably not completed that day and could have needed another day or so to have been finished.
... 2.Did the St. Louis plant work Saturdays in 1970?...
Yes. The assembly line ran on most Saturdays during C3 production.
...3.The C3 registry has my car's Birthday listed as March 8. That would have been a Sunday in 1970...
The C3 Registry is nice to have, but the information is not completely reliable. The plant did not run on Sundays so the March 8 date is incorrect. The earliest your car could have been completed would have been Monday, March 9th. Tuesday, March 10 is also a possibility. You may be able to get a shipping data report from the NCRS.

It all depends on your perspective on when "birth" actually occurs.
Is it when the car is "conceived" when you submit the order to the dealership and it actually enters the system?
Is it when they install the "heartbeat" and actually give the engine its first start?
Is it when it comes off the line with an official VIN and trim tag, thus giving it an identity?
Or is it when it's truly "delivered"?
Hmmm......
Maybe the Supreme Court can chime in here?
