I've given up on the factory antenna. Tried it all-NOS replacement, aftermarket replacement, replaced ribbon several times.
Anyone used a Metra replacement? If so how about model number and results?

Yes,,, we've used the Metal replacement without issues... If you are running the original radio and relay you'll have to wire around this at the rear compartment, if you are running an aftermarket radio you'll just need to run the trigger wire to the radio....
The so called reproduction antenna's in my humble opinion.... suck...
We use p/n
CK-PW22 for a replacement.

I used to own a Cadillac for quite a few years which used the same antenna as the 80's Corvettes. I replaced several masts over the years, had it apart a number of times. The nylon stem on the mast typically would break at the "J-hook". But they lasted several years each time I replaced the mast, which I didn't think was too bad considering it was a DD, I was doing sales on the road, and the mast was going up/down, maybe a dozen times a day.
Can I ask what specific issues you (OP) have been having with the 'rebuilt' units failing? Is yours the CB version?
I replaced my antenna on my 1980 cant remember where I bought it but most likely Ecklers or Willcox. Found relay to be bad and once it was replace and I found out how to make the connection behind the rear speaker all I had to do was connect it to the blue wire on my radio plug. Thus far it is working fine.
