Attempting to hold the battery in place in my 1982 collector edition and it will not stay put. Am I missing a part or did they not come with a battery tray? I do have
the rear clamp and bolt and the front stationary part. Is the battery too narrow?

Can you post a picture? This is the correct part, not the larger plastic piece you might see at AutoZone. It has an up side and a down side, and applies clamping pressure to the back of the battery.
It's the battery you have. I had the same issue with a Deka the PO put in my 78 Pace Car. I took a long 1/4 inch bolt and cut the head and the threads off and used it as a spacer between the clamp and the battery.

i just fixed mine last night since i got it! Cleaned it out..not sure if same as 79 but...
thought my battery didn’t fit either til i figured out i had clamp backwards..holds it now..op had it backwards.
