Anybody know if the shippers are still moving cars? I just got in the market for a chrome bumper. Initially I had planned to fly in and drive home, but then COVID happened. I haven't settled on a car yet, but it probably won't be near Austin where I live.
The news just reported that the trucking business is booming and there is actually some shortage in drivers and trucks.
Amazon supposedly hired a record number of drivers and leased rigs from independent owner/operator’s

I would take my time shopping right now. The world is gonna wake back up and a bunch of people are gonna find themselves a few months behind on mortgage and taxes and boss went out of business. There is going to be a lot of stuff for sale and less potential buyers.

If you fly, you need transport to the airport, from the airport to the car, plus lodging for 1 or 2 nights along the way, plus fuel, food and any unforseen brake downs, how old are the tires, oil change, tuneup and you should wear your mask and gloves.....maybe the $1500 is worth not getting sick and all the other issues
IS it cheaper to drive out and trailer it back?

Probably cheaper to drive out, although it would be close for 2 people + meals, hotel, etc. Its only $200 for us to fly out ($100 if its just me), plus a nights hotel and meals I got a shipping quote for $1100 from Paige Johnson. I'm having a mechanic check out the car today, so I'll have a better idea what shape its in. My problem is that I really WANT to drive it.

To get on a plane, any plane is a death wish right now. Even if the airlines supplied masks. Crazy times, scary times.
When I went to test drive my C3 and strike a deal, I sought out a U-Haul dealer nearby the Vette. I had my H.D. truck with me. Paid $110 to rent the car hailer across two states. They gave me three days to turn in the trailer. They wanted $200 but if I was willing to drop off the empty trailer 80 miles away from home, on the third day, it was a no brainer, sure! I can do that!
I would not drive a 40+ yr old vehicle more than 100 miles without any knowledge of its past history or bad habits. Especially with the travel restrictions today.
I would wager that the Vette you want has a 60% chance of breaking down on a return trip. Is it worth the gamble?

But I would die happy because I drove my new vette.

My uncle has a car trailer I'm sure I could borrow, although I only have a 1500 Silverado. The hard part is the amount of time it would take to drive out and get it. I'm still working, so its really either fly out on a weekend and drive it back, or get it shipped. I agree the smart thing is to ship it, but I've been waiting a few years to get it until my wife finished nursing school, and my inner kid wants to play with his new toy.
