I have a 77 rubber rear bumper I was thinking on hanging on the wall for some cool wall decoration.
I sure other people have done this before.
If you look at the picture, you can see the paint has come off in a few places and the bumper has been damaged in a few small places.
I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on a cheap paint I can paint on rubber and have it stick decently so I could make it uniform in color?
Also, I was thinking of adding LED lights some how to the tail lights and wondered if anyone has a suggestion on doing this.
thanks
jim
I would think that once you get it sanded down smooth, you can prime and paint using the same spray used for interiors. This already has a "flex" additive in it. They sell primer, color and clear coat.
Since it's an interior wall hanging, it'll never see weather. LEDs are an inexpensive way to light it up. Maybe replace the emblem with a nice clean one? Add a cool custom license plate, and you have a neat piece of Corvette art on your wall.

Does the paint have to be flexible since the bumper should move much on the wall ?
I am going to try to clean up the emblem. I think it can polish up quite a bit. I haven't done a full cleaning yet on the bumper. It was very dirty when i removed it.
Plastic-dip. Matte finish, and can change your mind. Minimal prep.
for the leds - I would find old lamp fixtures - thrift stores - and gut for just the screw in base. LED only, others likely too hot. I would want it to be corded, and add a switch.
I think I would add some type of wall brackets first that can not be seen from the outside. Maybe on 32" centers.
Then I would do some light sanding and hit it with some Duplicolor primer. Then two coats of Duplicolor of your choice, top coat.
By wiring in some type of timed relay, you could have the tail lights on via a cord switch and the brake lights activate every so many seconds.
Add a custom license plate and have plates lamps on real dim, as a night lite.

Clean ..sand..primer surfacer..sand..repeat til happy...go to chain auto store couple cans spray bombs..clear coat if you like color sand polish done..or any less steps depending on your quality level of choice short of commercial...
it will be fine,,
I did exactly this with. Red rear panel from a 1988 vette. It was for my bride. Her first vette was a red 1988.
i have original light sockets and lens’s. I replaced all the bulbs with led equivalents.
The idea was very low current draw.
the license plate lights are on all the time. The brake lights are hooked up to a cheap motion sensor so when you walk by the brake lights come on.
The license plate is an actual plate from my brides first vette.
The whole setup works really well and is a great conversation piece in my garage. License plate works as a night light in the garage and walk by the brake lights are bright enough to be very noticeable but over bearing!
A cheap 12v wall blister powers the whole thing!
My bride loves it and it is cool in my garage!
I have pictures somewhere here on the forum. I’ll search me and see if I can find them.
You have posted a very unique idea, I had heard this type of idea the first time and if you are still doing some upgrades to this item so you must visit at CouponCodify because they offered the best-discounted coupon codes on all type of products and I have already used this coupon recently for purchasing a new craft for my wall, it is very low in the budget that's why I am sharing it with you all members.
OP must be single, my wife would never agree to hang a piece of a car on the wall unless it was signed by some world famous artist.
Not necessarily. Some wives are worse than US!
I put a gas pump in our living room while building my garage.
When I went to move the pump to the new garage, my wife said NO!
"It looks good in the living room & it stays there.
If you want one in the garage, get another one!"

Hi Jim,
I did this with a 79 back bumper cover. Once of the car I was surprised just how floppy the cover is and to try and hang it would have it twist and flop all over. So I purchased a sheet of 3/8” ply from the local hardware store and laid the cover on top. Took a while to get it to sit nice and flat. I ended up marking centers with masking tape and putting some center lines on the ply to get it right. Next I went around the cover with a pencil and marked the shape onto the ply. I then removed the cover and marked out some cutouts for the lights and to get my hands in but left as much material as I could. After cutting out my shape I then bolted the cover to the board. Now I could lift it without flop. I used my old lights on the cover so just fitted cheap led lights, a 12 volt transformer and then hung it onto the wall. This thing is pretty heavy so be careful. Once hung I plugged into a timer and it looks great.
regards
Pete
Oh got any pictures of the process or the finished project? Do you remember what led setup you used and where you got it from?
I have to paint mine up a bit the paint on it has flaked off. Did you re paint yours?
thanks

I just used cheap eBay red leds. I used the existing bulb holders from my car as I did a chrome bumper modification to the rear of the car and fitted 69 lamps and holders. As for wiring I used 16swg red wire for positive and 16swg black wire for negative. I ran all the lamps in parallel and used crimp rings one for the red wires and one for the black wires. I also put a white led for the license plate lamp.
