Default Things I NEED....

Ok, I have always wanted a few things of historical significance:
Sergeant York's model 1917 rifle,
Audie Murphy's Tommy gun,
and how about this- Neil Armstong's Corvette!

or how about an AstroVette, like this lucky cat got for a song!

I was watching Apollo 13 movie, that mission launched 50 years ago today. Saw a red C3 in Jim Lovell's driveway, and Ken Mattingly pulls up in his C3(which has to be a '71 or '72-- war bonnet yellow?-- in April of 1970!!!)As a kid, I always wanted to be an astronaut and ride the Saturn V to the moon! It would be awesome to own an Astronaut's Corvette!

I saw that episode of Grand Tour and it was fantastic. Performing calculations with a slide rule, computing power that was minimalistic compared to today. The fact that we were able to send men to the moon and back is incredible.

There are now 2 people from the State of Maine in the space station.

James looks almost giddy. I sometimes think Neil Armstrong might not have wanted to be the 1st man on the moon. Or at least not the fame that came with it.

I had forgotten about this when I got the car after my dad passed. It was several months before I put the ash tray door down and rediscovered it.

This is a STS-51C pin that is a replica of the mission patch that NASA had made for each mission.

I have attempted to track the ownership of this car, but keep being told that I need to have a lawyer or law enforcement officer request the records and it hasn’t gone any farther. My suspicion is that my car somehow has a connection to NASA, but I don’t know if it was owned by an astronaut. One of the crew members on that mission lives about 60 miles from me. Wouldn’t it be cool.....

That Grand Tour episode was fantastic.

@UnintendedVettenancy, as cool as that is, it also looks like your AC works, so smooth humble-brag there.

No braggadocio intended. I paid for the AC in blood, sweat and although no tears, lots of cussing. I didn’t throw any tools, but I was really tempted several times. Between washing my hands several dozen times a day, the old oil and God knows what other chemicals I encountered while I was redoing the AC, and trying to put my hands in places that a 9 year old’s hands wouldn’t fit into, my hands look like hamburger!

The jury is still out on the AC. Seems like any time I try a big project there’s always a gremlin that pops up at the last minute. I won’t consider that one a success until I’ve had the system evacuated, flushed and filled. When it’s blowing cold air, I’ll consider that one a success!
