Default Need help on lower shift boot - 71 Vette

I am working my way through building my 71 back up and currently finishing up laying out the Dynamat. Was getting ready to replace the tattered lower shift boot and had ordered a new one from Ecklers. I am finding that it is smaller than the one I am replacing. I have included some pics. The one with the yellow highlighter pointing at it is the frame of the one I pulled off. The Ecklers replacement is next to it. What I am looking to understand - is the one I pulled off not an original and someone over the past 49 yrs added a larger one after opening the hole up a bit - or - is the one from Ecklers incorrect.

Thanks for the help

Is the 4 spd original for your car? Based on the tranny hump opening, I'm wondering whether an automatic may have been stock.

And the way that opening is cut, with overcuts. Doesn't look factory at all.

Looks like an auto was in there at one point OR someone hacked the opening for access increasing the size requiring an auto boot to seal it up.
Your "boot" is actually the lower shift boot retainer for an automatic.
The new boot is for a 4-speed.

Yep, most likely a auto originally, does it have a bolt in crossmember or bolt in?

Easy to make a filler between the two. The assy manual shows the delta in what was cut out for the auto shifter.
