Default Expansion tank question

So Im making progress on my 1968 Roadster 350, 4 speed, , and have questions about one hose. I have no idea where this hose goes? I know nothing about Corvettes, but learning on the job. The top hose on the expansion goes to the radiator over flow, where does the hose with the half round tube go?? Not the original motor in the car now. its a 2001 crate motor. New aluminum radiator as well. Can you guys help?? Buddy"

Does your car have the two large metal tubes on the firewall/same side of the car that the passenger seat is on? I don't know what the small bent tube is for.

First thing is the small tank set up is designed for a car that has a radiator with no cap .

Normally there's just a small tube coming out the top corner of the radiator, a hose would be attached to that and run to the tube next to the cap on the small tank .

The hose that is attached just under the cap on the small tank would run down to the chassis rail (overflow).

on your set up a heater hose is cut and connected to two tubes coming out the bottom of the small tank , that is correct . That means the tank is in the cooling water circuit , normally you fill and check the level at the small tank only.

To get your cooling circuit working properly you could go two ways.

1 take the radiator out and get the cap provision removed and get a small tube soldered in there .

2 join the heater hose back together , remove that small tank , just run a short hose from under the radiator cap to the chassis OR to an overflow tank , either way you go could require a new radiator cap.

Whoever put the differant radiator in (cheaper) , should have put one without a cap .

I purchased the radiator when I first got the car on 2013, it was supposed to be a drop in application! But that wasn't the case at all. I didn't get the radiator or radiator supports when I got the car, so I fabricated the radiator mounts myself. One hose coming off the heater core runs into the bottom of the small tank, are you saying to eliminate the small tank by connecting the hoses to each other bypassing the small tank completely?

Do you mean the supply in and out of the heater core?

Yes , you have one hose in one piece , just disconnect the two hoses from the bottom of the small tank and join together .That will return the heater system to full constant flow.

Also , while your there , if your car gets hot inside while driving , now would be a time to add a small shut off valve to stop the hot water flow. Just a manual one would do . Summer turn it off , winter turn it on .

Looks like that small tank is original , if it is it will have a date code stamped on it .

Just a heads up on what there worth to buy new . Depending on condition you could get a few bucks for it on our c3 parts for sale wanted on this forum
