In 1975 I purchased a new Vette . Yesterday in s 1975 issue of Corvette news I found the build sheet tucked between the pages. Id like to see if I can track its history.
As I look at the build sheet I’m not sure where the VIN is located. I suspect upper right hand corner. If it’s in the upper left the corner of the sheet is torn off and only a partial number available.
Can anyone tell me where the VIN is located?
thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
Tom
Where is the build sheet located on the 75? I am guessing its not inside the cabin as i have had the interior out two times.
Would i be correct saying the gas tank.
I never went looking for it because i know what i ordered on the car in 75.
The build sheet is glued to the TOP of the gas tank cover, not the gas tank itself.
That's because as the car came down the assembly line the tank and the shield were in place on the car BEFORE the body was installed. And the workers still needed to read the sheet.
That's a nice find. That upper left hand corner would include an expected date of production.

Actually, VINs were assigned before assembly began but the tag was attached, generally, after or between paint coats. Once assigned the VIN was typed onto the stack of manifests (buildsheets), of which there were seven copies, distributed to the various lines. One, as noted was glued to the tank cover as a reference as the chassis was being built up. On the other side of the factory the body was undergoing assembly and would not mate with the chassis until interior trim was installed.
