Hi Folks,
Looking into Powder Coating the headers on my '69 small block.
I have a couple of local shops that specialize in blasting and powder coating of auto parts.
I'm mainly pondering the color options.
The engine block is Chevy Orange.
The valve covers are the finned aluminum type.
Not sure what input you folks can provide with your own experiences (photos are encouraged).
Right now, I'm thinking either black or argent-ish gray.
But I'm open to other options.

Powder coat is PLASTIC, it is applied at room temperature electrostatically and then BAKED in an oven at 400° F.....it melts and flows into a solid coating.
Thank God you asked....you'd have probably set the car on FIRE. Headers are up to 1500° F (you've seen them glowing red hot or even more in H-P situations.)
Thanks for the feedback - any details on why you believe it won't hold up?
Are there better options?
hi,
your headers run hotter than even the high heat powders we use in industrial engines exhaust...
Go with advice above...
no it wouldn’t have caught fire.....but would have degraded and potentially smoked.
stay below 1200f, high heat powder coating will work.
not all powder coating are plastic, certainly not the heat ones.
