Default C3 rear steel spring

Just had shipped in 1990 a new spring with no bands. Supplier said band on each end was not needed. True OR False ?

Straps were used on aftermarket springs not GM and should be removed once installed. Original springs have a curled end on each side of the leaf.

GM service replacements also had the band clamps.

I have heard the bands are to hold the springpack together and aligned while on the warehouse shelf. Once it /springpack is bolted in place the 4 mounting bolts and plate keep the leafs aligned. Old cars and trucks had the bands riveted in place permanently.
