It depends on the drive gear inside the transmission, they had 6, 7, and 8 tooth gears if I remember correctly. You can pull the driven gear and look in the hole, If you mark is with a marker you can count the gears, they are long helical gears but you can do it. * is pretty common

I assume you are trying to make your speedo correct. I had the same issue. I took the speedo gear out, counted the teeth. Then use the "Thegearbox" table to go smaller or larger on the gear to change the speedo. You have to stay with the same size range of your drive gear.. 1.84 or 1.76 OD, unless you want to take your trans apart. Some times the colors are not correct.
