Does anybody the cost to remove and replace a front end clip on a 1969 Corvette?
My rookie guess would be:
$1,500 for an inexpensive clip/$3,000 for a quality-grade clip...…...add another $1,000-$2,000 for labor and material....add another $2,000 for painting.
the nose can be had for 1300 bucks these days. but the bumper, bumper guards, brackets, grilles, grille trim, grille mounts, turn signals, side markers, frame extensions, crossmember all add up to nearly that much again. and if you go back to the correct hood and wiper door an additional 1000 bucks. the way you said "time to get my car back on the road" implies that it needs more than the correct nose. i would start researching and collecting the needed nose parts while bringing the car back to life as a 69-75 frankenvette. you could spend 6k easy if paying someone to do the swap and have a car that needs everything below the hood and from the doors back. i am toying with converting a 75 to chrome. the alterations to the outline where the bumper attaches to the 73-up body are not all that major to make a reasonable version of a 68-72 grille mouth. doing the job so no one can tell it was a 75 is a bit more involved. and the 75 nose isn't all that valuable or hard to find, so butchering one isn't a cardinal sin. plus, you still need all the hardware anyway whether you install it to a 69 nose or the already installed 75 nose.
I would think there were some modifications made to allow the 1975 nose to be mounted in the first place. There is a frame that the 75 mounts to called a front extension which isn't used on a 69 and the 75 extension doesn't have any mounting points for the 69 bumper extensions. If those changes are needed it will cost you more to have a shop make those corrections.
Just an fyi.
Good luck with your changes and best regards,
David Howard
