I've got an innova digital which is awesome but it's a little screwy with the MSD box. so I purchased a Basic self powered non-dial back light (my balancer is engraved)
Best bet is to find an old non-digital one from a yardsale

Dial back delay lights can sometimes cause delay in an MSD module......I have seen up to 2 degrees. Use a regular strobe style for MSD or other boxes.....but you will need a tape or markings on the balancer.
I recently bought the Innova/Bosch O'reilley $100 bill light last year.....same one as stated above.......works awesome on anything else, shows RPM and has a damn metal clamp on it which all lights should have had 40 years ago......
I have an ancient Craftsman strobe with semi-melted clamp that I use for my own car......lol.
Mine (Innova) is moves around at idle about 1-2 degrees with the MSD and seems (?) to get better when I bring the RPM up but still around a degree off at 3000 compared to the basic light.
Both read exactly the same without the MSD box

My Innova light shows questionable readings below 3000 rpm with the MSD ignition box. Above 3000 rpm the timing indicator is rock steady but there isn't any multi-spark discharge above 3000 rpm.
For me it was the box as last year I tried various combinations of coils trying to chase a different issue, stock GM coil, baster II, and an igniter coils didn't seem to change much
Worst part is some people seem to have luck with them, others don't and there's no real way of knowing. I wish it was out 45degrees or something so it was obvious not 3 and stay there for a little then go to 2 for a bit then back to 3 so you have no idea if it's right or not
