Default Dealer Information

I have a 1968 Corvette that appears to have been delivered to Bauman Chevrolet in Wilkinsburg, Pa. I would love to be able to find out more information about this car and where it went after Bauman Chevrolet. Do any of the old dealers from the late 60's have any sort of information available that would identify who they may have sold the car to or any additional information about the car? Thanks in advance.

GM required dealers to keep records of sales, but that was fifty years ago and almost none of the information is available these days. Is Bauman Chevrolet still in business? In itself, that would be a surprise.

I'm in the same position as you. I know my 1978 was shipped to Bill Branch Chevrolet in Fort Myers, FL, but that has changed hands and the building completely built, so I'm guessing no records kept at all. I made contact with all(most!) South Florida Corvette Clubs to see if anyone had any info or remembered my car in its early days - as yet, no news!

A quick look seemed to indicate that Bauman is no longer in business.....

Fla,DMV keeps their records forever,my vette cam from there and they sent me a whole bunch of paperwork all the way back to the mso. That was in the late 80's and they started charging by the page after that(it only cost me $2.75 and it cost them $3.00 to ship it.New privacy laws may not allow it any more though, but worth a shot.I think the DMV was in Tallahassee, easy to check.good luck

I ran across a facebook account that collects pictures of old dealerships. Type "Old Dealership Photos" into the text box at the top.

I tried the same thing but the dealership is long gone. I do have almost all the service records for the car since it was new. I still have the window sticker too! $7,000 for a new 74 vette in November of 73.

Hi. Thanks a lot, I'll look into that. I was a bit unsure if, as you say, the new laws may not allow it, but I'll see what I can find out. Can't "pop in"there from over here alas!

Ok, here is another question. Since the car appears to have originally been sold in PA, does anyone know if PA DMV has a way to track a car's VIN from 1968?
