Default Need some info regarding ignition key, lock

I'm switching a '75 C3 from automatic to 4 speed, this necessitated removing the steering column. Now that I've put it back in I notice the ignition key does not go back into the "Locked" position. I have placed the rod back into the switch on the column. Clicks through all the other positions. Will this correct itself when I apply power back to the car?

Thanks for any help, guys.

You will need to lift the interlock lever at the base of the column located on the engine side of the firewall. That lever used to connect to the interlock cable that connected to the trans shift lever. The trans had to be in park in order to turn the key to lock. Lifting that lever will simulate it being in park. Manual trans cars had a cable from there to the reverse lever so that it had to be in reverse to turn the key to lock and remove the key.
