My friend has a 70 vette that's having wiper issues. When he hits the switch, nothing happens, neither high speed nor low. If he opens the wiper door manually (under dash ****) and pushes the washer ****, the wipers make one sweep and stop. He replaced the motor because he burned up the old one while holding in the washer button too long. We can hear the relay click while he moves the switch back and forth, but nothing happens. What should we look at? All the wiring and hoses are connected that we can see.
First thing I'd check is the switch ground, (especially if the gauge bezel is broken in those thin corners) or faulty switch itself (they can be taken apart and cleaned)
If the switch isn't working then the tach-solenoid won't open the door (as you said it has to be opened with the override) etc and IIRC the washer will give it one pulse but will not continue after
Willcox has a series of videos on testing the motors switches etc

We did run a ground wire from the switch bezel to the door switch and it made no difference. We took the switch out and did a continuity test and it seemed ok although the switch has a lot of play in it. What about the solenoid (if that's the correct term) that's mounted on the tach? Would a loose hose there make it act this way? He has A/C so all the duct work has to be removed to get to that which we don't want to do if we don't have to.
The tach solenoid would prevent the door from opening but once opened it doesn't do anything.
The wiper door switch must be OK since it's the main power to the motor and it wouldn't make that one cycle if there was a problem there
If the switch is ok then goo out and jumper the motor directly to make sure something isn't wrong between the switch and motor

Problem solved! Feel pretty stupid after what I found. When the problem first occurred, he removed the switch to test it. Then he put it back in. Well the real problem was loose hoses on the solenoid to work the wiper door and he fixed that but it still wouldn't work and that's when I started this thread. I went up there today with the switch from my 72 to change it out and see if that was the problem. When I got there, he said he removed the switch again and reversed the 3 wire connector on the back and now the wipers work. So I guess the real culprit was the hoses after all. Thanks Mooser for your responses and help!
