Default What tire do you prefer?

I know this is another tire thread, but trying to find an answer to my question would take sifting through a ton of posts and take forever. So I wanted to try this.

I'm changing to 17" wheels (I know, not everyone's preference) and am trying to find a great tire. So, if you are running 16", 17", 18" or larger, what brand tire do you use? I'm looking at 255/50/17, although I'm not set on that. I've just read that that's as wide as I can go.

So if you have a brand you run and prefer, can you also list the model of the tire.

I've convinced the family to buy tires/rims for me for Father's Day! So I have to get this figured out.

Thanks in advance,
Keith

You are going to get a LOT of views on this. I would start with what type of driving and when. I run Firestone Indy 500 xl on my c3 with 18s. Mich PS4 on c5. Ive run Conti all seasons also. All depends on when and how you drive and how much you want to $$

After running the BF Goodrich Radial T/A at high speeds on the track, I decided it was time to go with 17" TT2's and speed rated tires.
I went with the Nitto NT555 P255/45ZR17 tires all four corners. I have been very happy with them as far as handling and up to 150 mph at the track.

Continential Extreme Contact. Seem to wear well, excellent traction wet or dry and have driven them down to 25*, but NEVER tried to drive them in the snow. T

Good point. I should have specified driving conditions. I live in the south and will be driving it year around. That being said, I probably won't be driving it if its freezing outside, unless I learn that my heat rocks.

Since I'm in the South, snow is not an issue. I'm also not planning to intentionally drive in the rain, but could get caught in a shower every now and then.

I hope that helps. Thanks to everyone who has already responded.

You might just have the exact set up I'm going for. I love the look of those tires. I'm not planning no going 150 mph, so do you like how these ride on cruises around town?

I've been very happy with these tires. They ride very nice actually. Considering the width, they don't do bad in the rain either.
I've done a number of Power Tours and put a lot of miles on them.

My old ZR-1 had 17s, I used a couple sets of Sumitomos. Drove great, super affordable. Not the best not the cheapest...stuck ok no complaints.
Never saw the sense in buying 300 buck tires unless you gotta hav ethe brand, track it etc.

I just got these. Riken Raptor 255/50/17. Riken is a subsidiary of Michelin. Reasonable priced. I was looking for a less expensive performance tire because the tires will age out before they wear out.

Another question, but this time for wheels. I'm planning on AR Torq Thrust, but see there are many models to choose from. What's best? I want to go with Chrome and looking at the Torq Thrust II.

I decided on the same setup as Mako72’s. Haven’t pulled it out for a proper photo, but here she is. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks
Keith

Did you lower your car any, as it looks like it's sitting about 1 inch or so lower than mine with the same tire/wheel setup?

Thanks,
Keith
